Jennifer Kennedy English 111 Rough Draft #1 Professor Ford September 3, 2011 Technology’s Crippling Affect on our Society Over the recent years technology has become more common in our society and has impacted how we write, think, and communicate. Each piece of technology can impact you in a different way; some may help facilitate last minute plans while others become a detriment to our problem solving ability. Technology has become a distraction and caused injuries because people that are using them do not pay attention to what they should be doing. The newest technology includes the way cell phones are able to access the internet and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Some technology is useful, but overall technology has had a negative impact on our society. Society today has grown up on the use of cell phones and their ever expanding potential to do things. Cell phones can not only call, but text, surf the internet, watch videos, send emails, and play music. When problems arise you can easily just type the question into Google on your phone and find out the answer in seconds; even though that answer may be wrong. Google and phones with internet access have taken away our problem solving skills and capability for recognizing absurd answers. Just because something pops up as an answer to the question doesn’t mean it is the truth. And because you didn’t try to work out the problem yourself you don’t know that the answer may be wrong when you look it up. Instead of thinking about a problem I succumb to technology and just type the question into the search box.
