Chapter 10 Challenges Women Face Upon Reentry into Society after Prison Women are faced with employment challenges mostly because of their past criminal activity. Lack of employment leads to housing problems. Employers have implemented prejudice against women from prison. They are also denied important licenses which can help them exercise the skills they are taught in prison. The burden of children responsibility is greater to women than men after being convicted. They are faced with the challenge of restoring relationships with their children. Reintegrating into familial life may be difficult as the society and family may offer some rejection. ( Covington, 2003) Women face challenges in assessing public assistance and food stamps. Even after completing their sentence and also earned a certificate of rehabbilitation,these women are considered illegible for any form of public assistance which causes struggles to them as they try to support themselves which can cause their return to criminal activities.
