In January Madrid will host an event aboutgastronomy called Madrid Fusion – International Gastronomy Summit. In January will havecultural exhibitions such as Luxury, from Assyrians to Alejandro Magno and Manet, Degas, TheImpressionists and Photography.Business communication and etiquetteEach country has its own characteristics involving business. Following there is someinformation about communication and etiquette in the work environment.Greetings– Spanish used to greet others shaking hands most of the time. However, in somesituations, they used to kiss others without touching other’s face.Dress code– appearance is an important factor and Spanish are conscious that the way they aredressed reflects their professional achievement and relative social standing. So, it is considered
3in the workplace as well. To be considered more professional, they prefer to use good qualityclothes. Also, they like fashion but avoiding the use of so many different styles at the same time.The best colour for winter in dark, while light colour is preferred for summer.Working hours– stores are usually open from 9 am to 2 pm and 4:30 pm to 8 pm; however,large stores usually are open all day. Offices used to open from 10 am to 2 pm and 4 pm to 7 pm;however, companies that have international business usually operates from 9 am to 5 pm.Punctuality– being not punctual is not considered impolite or rude.Body language– they use expansive body language and yawning or stretching in public isconsidered unrefined.Communication– the communication is usually formal, following rules and protocols. In theworkplace, they used to avoid conflicts because they do not like to assume errors especially infront of others because they have concerns about what others could think about them. Goodtopics to start the conversation and to be used as ice breakers are football, family, children, food,and wine. Also, they used to interrupt someone speaking and it is not considered rude.
