The building of shelters was needed to store grain for the lean times or the times when grain was not being harvested. Grain tends to mold when held damp for too long a period of time, so keeping it dry until usage was important. The accumulation of dry grain helped lead to an abundance of grain for the production of food products. Abundance of food tends to spark creativity as people seek variety, and beer was one of the creative uses for grain.
