Chapter 5 Question #2 Page 166 When it comes to corporate social responsibility (CSR,) I feel that corporations do not do as much as they should be doing to respect the rights of stakeholders. The stakeholders that I am referring to in this case are not just stockholders, employees, and customers, they are also the families and communities of these listed above, as well as their factories. Based upon my beliefs, I tend to gravitate toward the Social Contract Model of CSR because I strongly believe that corporations have a responsibility to the moral rights and values of the stakeholders. Some of these rights include relaying urgent information to consumers, caring for employees, and being responsible to the natural environment. The first responsibility that a corporation has to the people, even before it has to worry about the main stakeholders, is their legal responsibilities. Beyond the law they have to worry about whether the decisions that they are making are ethical ones. For example, the case of the drug Vioxx manufactured by Merck.
