Unformatted text preview: Chinmaya 1 Nikhil Chinmaya Professor Hornberger English 110 25 February 2008 Gloria Anzaldua continually focuses on her main point of how one cannot tame a wild tongue, but "can only be cut out". Though this “wild tongue” does not refer to the tongue itself, it refers to her Chicano descent and how it is thought of as a disgrace throughout the Spanish, and Anglo community. Anzaldua’s focus throughout the chapter is her repeated disgust and shame that she is trying to rid from the minds of the Chicano community and to proudly embrace their language and heritage because she states, “We know how to survive. When other races have given up their tongue, we’ve kept ours.
