creature comforts is what separates people like Sergio from others who take only what they  need to sustain life.  Evidence of his love for worldly objects from the texts include Sergio’s  description of his apartment and his wife’s possessions, Certeau’s commentary on “tactical”  users (consumers), and Lefebvre’s thoughts on modernity and organized society.  Everyday  life is routine and parasitic; people buy and buy products without contributing anything else to  society—something at which Sergio excelled.  It is significant that Sergio is bourgeois  because he is the type of person Certeau describes in his  Practice,  while he lives in a society  that completely shuns any type of bourgeoisie or middle-class capitalism.  It is amazing that  Sergio can survive in Cuba while remaining one of the only people who retains some of his  possessions and class status. Even though the works were all written at different times, it is  almost as if the Frenchmen were directly referring to Sergio in their writings. The main character in Alea’s film, Sergio, conducts his daily life as a series of routines  that are as ambiguous and interchangeable as the monotonous passing days are.  Although  Certeau and Lefebvre were referring to capitalist societies, their theories are useful in

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
