IR 56- European International Relations Spring 2008 Page 1 of 2 Tues/Thur 9:20- 10:35 am, Neville Hall 006 Lehigh University Prof. Chad Briggs chb206@lehigh.edu Office: Maginnes Hall 211 TEL: 610-758-3388 Office hours: Tues/Thur 11-noon, or by appointment This course examines the history of international relations in Europe, with an emphasis on the events of the 20 century and their effects on the rest of the globe. This course serves as important th background to understanding the emergence of the state system, ideas of nationalism, and how the fall of colonial empires has created divisions that persist to this day. Students will become familiar with key events leading to the current world system, and how history can be applied to the study of international relations. The course will be based upon lectures and readings, both of which will be assessed in examinations during and at the end of term. Assignments:
