Television and Children:Watch OutTelevision can be an entertaining and relaxing activity. It is one of the most common leisureactivities for people of all ages. In my opinion, children at a very young age should not beallowed to watch TV.First, television programs cannot supportthe children’s moral growth. Unfortunately, most of the programs provide scenes of violence and should not be viewed by youngsters whoare still developing what is and is not appropriate. Also, young children are not able to realizewhat is fictional and not and may attempt to re-enact specificscenes that may lead to injury ordeath. In addition, TV programs do nothing to support the development of early literacy skills.A child learns so much more by reading a book and discussing its content with an adult. Thechild in that instance is not the receiver of information, as in the case of TV viewing, but ratheran active participant.
