People are free, equal, and reasonable b) Would this state of nature feel like a threatening situation? Or a peaceful one? 2. Golden rule 2.0: Do unto others before they do it unto you. a) How cooperative scheme comes together? People may think others just focus on their own selfish self-interest (when there is no law enforcement) b) People may go for a more authoritative gov to curve/remedy selfish self- interest c) Depending on how you view human nature – this will determine what you want a gov and what you think people will agree on creating what kind of gov 3. The book a) Chapter 1 – outline in the first treatise b) Chapter 2 – outline the state of nature 4. State of nature: a) Employ new metaphor to understand the political authority (not the natural, unchanging, god-giving gov) b) Motivations, needs, interests – find the best contract for your needs c)
