As such, the program is aligned bothwith theStandards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Centuryand with the CriticalThinking Initiative of the University of Louisville.Student Learning Outcomes:By the end of FREN 123 (the final course in the IntroductoryFrench sequence), the successful student should be able to start expressing their own meaning inFrench, e.g., initiate, maintain, and close simple conversation by asking and responding tosimple questions. Make themselves understood, with some repetition, by speakers accustomed todealing with non-native speakers. Communicate in discrete sentences. Demonstrate anunderstanding of the relationship between the practices and products and the perspectives of thecultures studied. Demonstrate an understanding of the nature of language and culture throughcomparison with their own.Relation to Cardinal Core (General Education) Requirements: The Cardinal Core Programand the Introductory French Program at the University of Louisville foster active learning byasking students to think critically, to communicate effectively, and to understand and appreciatecultural diversity.
