During the week 4 discussion, my topic was the use of API software for nurse scheduling. API saves health care organizations time and money by implementing this software. My discussion also contained thoughts on high reliability organizations and how they aim to provide consistent excellence in quality and safety. In an effort to maintain its Magnet status this organization will need to continue to provide high quality care and reapply for Magnet status every four years. Friese (2014) suggests that Magnet recognized health care facilities are committed to quality improvement in nursing care (Friese et al., 2015). I would not change my recommendations, but I would suggest keeping software up to date or ensuring that the best in breed is implemented if not already in use as this organization has maintained its Magnet status and various units within the hospital have achieved Beacon award recognition for their high quality care. I am employed at a pediatric hospital and the scheduling system set in place is the APT healthcare, which is a nurse scheduling software system. Full-time employed nurses are given a widow of seven days to set their schedules for a three month period. After this window closes zero-based and part-time nurses set their schedules for a three month period. After all schedules
