Running Head: UNIT 7 REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT Unit 7 Reflection Assignment PSYC 300 3313655 Louis Svenningsen- Tutor December 23, 2019
UNIT 7 REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT 2 1. Describe the benefits and insights gained from this activity from the perspective of a client, or provide a plausible explanation as to why this activity failed to generate insights or benefits. I enjoyed this activity far less than the other’s presented in the course, for several reasons, but I will begin with what I liked about the Career Pathways workbook (Amundson & Poehnell, 2004). Reviewing the table of contents was pretty exciting. The workbook seemed very thorough, and after looking at it, I was anticipating that I would garner much insight into various aspects of my personal and work-life. The introduction page was also well laid out. None of the points in the introduction made any promises for what the guide could do, but instead used empowering language such as “make realistic career goals” and “identify barriers…” (Amundson & Poehnell, pg. 7). When I started to read the first few pages, however, I got bored really fast. I found myself wanting to skip forward in the book. If I were an unemployed person, stressed and frustrated, completing this entire workbook would be maddening. I’d have to go through pages 8-65 before even getting to look at actual career options. Also, completing those pages would likely span over several sessions, because it doesn’t seem to me that the resource is set up to be used without the guidance of a career counsellor. I completed the “discovering values” section of the book, which entailed filling out worksheets 12 and 13. The first worksheet comprised of 45 different statements, all beginning with “I want,” and all focusing on an aspect that may or may not be relevant to me in my work.
