Its mission is to help people around the world save money andlive better anytime and anywhere – by providing the opportunity to shop in retail stores andthrough eCommerce. This mission is achieved by the execution of multiple strategies that aremainly costumer centric, they also focus on growth, discipline and keeping the lowest possiblecosts.Walmart just like any other company has to deal with a number of external factor that can affectthe company, like changes in prices of petroleum, higher interest rates, increased costs ofessential services, higher levels of unemployment, decreases in consumer disposable income, etc.The massive retailer also faces fierce competition. Despite this, there are also external factorsthat can create opportunities, like technology innovations that optimize process, lower cost andthat are more environmentally friendly.Walmart has a lot of important internal strengths, the company has a well-defined and strongculture, that promotes diversity and inclusion. Some of its weakness are in its HR departmentregarding employee’s satisfaction.Considering Walmart’s current situation, its mission, and its external and internal factors astrategy of horizontal growth through acquisitions of small online retailers has beenrecommended. The next paper discusses in depth the mentioned areas, identifies the mostimportant factors and recommends a strategy that is believed to contribute to its competitiveadvantage, suggests an implementation and the respective evaluation and controls.

Current Performance.Walmart currently serves over 265 million customers who visitapproximately 11,500 stores and numerous eCommerce websitesunder 56 banners in 27 countries. (Walmart Inc. Form 10-K, 2020.) Walmarthas been one of the beneficiaries of stay-at-home trends during the pandemic.Americans have turned to its stores and website for groceries, its e-commercesales jumped 41%. Walmart also reported that its net income rose to $5.14billion, or $1.80 per share, from $3.29 billion, or $1.15 a share, a year earlier.
