Unformatted text preview: Comp poli econ 2- 18-07 Types of welfare systems- Social democratic o Encourage them to get out in work force o Low unemployment b/c there is a lot of public jobs and also higher taxes o Ex, Sweden, Norway, Denmark- Christian democratic o Programs like family allowances – this type would go to all types of families (poor and middle class) Strengthen resources of traditional families with gender roles o Less emphasis on daycare, health than social democrats o High level of unemployment – low job security o Ex, Germany- Liberal o We have more inequality in wages and incomes b/c welfare disbursements are not high o Ex, US, Great Britain Strains on System - brief welfare history o from 1945 – 1970s > expansion of welfare programs o Growth very uneven and eventually stopped in 70’s causing strains in Europe and US- Growing need for services (more people required public assistance) o States could not afford to provide these needs o Sources of demands on system Decline of manufacturing employment...
