Background: The AttackDecember 7, 1941, remains an indelible day in the history of many Americans. It was on the weehours of a Sunday morning when the state of Pearl Harbor, naval base was hit by a surpriseattack from a Japanese dive bomber bearing the red symbol of the rising sun on its wings. Aswarm of around 360 Japanese warplanes followed and destroyed United States fighter planes,aircrafts and warships killing many Americans and causing mass destruction. The devastatingattack on Pearl Harbor which is located in Hawaii on the island of Oahu in the Pacific Oceanbetween California and Japan caught Americans by surprise and angered them to the brim. Thisattack on Pearl Harbor caused shock on the Americans which forced them into theSecond WorldWar.The bombing attack which happened in two waves left many servicemen, women and civilianskilled and wounded. For nearly two hours 20 American ships had been destroyed and 300airplanes crippled. About 2,403 were killed and 1000 injured.
