Course Description : The objective of this course is to analyze the relationship between finance and the sport industry. The sport industry has grown into the 11 th largest industry in the United States. Over $250 billion are spent each year by sport consumers. As the industry grows, there is an added emphasis on the financial aspects of sport. Students will review the basics of finance and relate them to sport organizations. In addition, important current financial issues will be discussed as they relate to professional sport and collegiate athletics. Lastly, emphasis will be placed on the financial and economic aspects of sport facility construction. Blackboard will be used extensively for perpetual learning, and all course deliverables will be sent via Blackboard. Our textbook is by Fried, G., Shapiro, S.J., & DeSchriver, T.D. (2008). Sport Finance (2nd ed.) The publisher is Human Kinetics; ISBN: 0-7360-6770-1. Supplemental reading of key periodicals and online resources, such as Sports Business Journal are encouraged.
