Lei Zheng Phys-207 LL4 Sara Abedia Lab 5-Linear Momentum Introduction: In this lab my group and I will try to verify the conservation of linear momentum. The steel ball will gain an initial velocity as it rolled down the ramp. Then it will collide and embedded in a wooden block. We will then compare the momentum of the system before the collision and after collision. Measure the ball’s velocity, V b : Procedure: Measure the ball’s velocity We first measure the mass of the steel ball, and we also had to measure the height b, where the ball will fall. Then we clamp a sheet of wax paper on the floor of the box, and then we allow the ball to rolled down from its highest point. After then ball has landed we measure the distance it land using ruler. We did ten trials of this and found the average distance and uncertainty.
