Lauren Bosco Madness in Literature Task: Write your response to Kafka’s piece. What is the meaning of Gregor’s metamorphosis? Why does it happen? The Metamorphosis was one of the most interesting pieces I have ever read. I had no problem picturing the unfortunate story of Gregor Samsa’s metamorphosis, so much so that the first part of the novella was actually painful for me to read. I wrenched at Gregor’s plight to even get out of bed. I felt frustration in Gregor’s inability to communicate with his family. As Gregor became more and more isolated from his family, I was appalled at how unaccepting they were of Gregor’s change in appearance. They never gave him a chance to remain part of the family and meanwhile Gregor was previously the sole provider for his family, working to pay off his parents’ debt. I also find it quite odd how quickly Gregor and his family are to accept his fate; Gregor remained relatively calm as he realized that he had transformed into a bug.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
