Mackenzie Symes Sociology Chapter 11 Reaction This chapter was difficult to read because it focused on a lot of inequalities that I cannot fully understand. Cultural practices such as honor killings and female circumcisions are things that I am not sure how they could have ever begun, and yet these and other practices continue. While this chapter seemed to focus on a lot of inequalities that are painful, the chapter also discussed the changing roles of men and women expected in our society, such as what we view as masculine and feminine. When we first watched the video about female circumcision, I had never realized that such a thing existed. Based off of the video I only thought that this was a one-time action which was something I found extremely horrible. The textbook talked about the entire practice of female circumcision; it is not a one-time only thing, instead women face this pain repeatedly throughout their lives. I cannot comprehend how people would justify doing this to women at all, let alone on a repeated basis. It almost seems like women are being punished in some way for
