APSY 3/5/08 t-test - State your hypotheses - Collect your data and compute your sample stats - Decide whether to reject the null hypothesis o Set alpha level o Determine critical value o Compare your sample test stat (was Z now t) to critical value - Describe in words the nature of the results - What is t-test for dependent means? o Compares the difference between two sets of scores from the same people to see if they are significantly different. o Use a t-test for dependent means when: The independent variable is within subjects (repeated measures) Independent variable has two levels. - We are still following the steps for hypothesis testing with minor mods: o Is there a relationship between the IV and DV? That is, can we reject the null hypothesis that there is no difference between pairs of scores? o What is the nature of the relationship? That is, describe in words which set of scores is higher (or lower) than the other (looking at the means of both groups). -
