Conformity is when a person adjusts his or her behaviors or beliefs to fit in with society. Also culture has a great influence on conformity because it teaches us how to behave in our society. According to Taylor, Peplau and Sears (2006) “Collectivist cultures view conformity not as a response to social pressure but as a way to be connected to others and to fulfill one’s moral obligations as a responsible person” (pg.208). Compliance is when we are asked to do something even though we prefer not to and do it anyway. Sometimes we comply for no reason and we respond out of habit, however, in every culture compliance is learned at home where we learn to follow directions from adults. Obedience is when we obey those with authority believing that they have the right to make requests.
