The Civil Rights Movement in the 1950’s The 1950’s were the start of some major advancements for African-Americans to gain equal rights and their struggle through those years were going to be ones that would test their courage to push forward. One of the major developments that set things in motion for African-Americans to gain equal rights was the Brown Vs. Board of Education. Even though African- Americans had been fighting for equal rights since the Civil War but they were minor victories and sometimes set them back and discouraged them into thinking that they were never going to reach their goal. The Brown Vs. Board of Education declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students and denying black children equal educational opportunities unconstitutional and that separate educational facilities are inherently unequal. With that ruling it paved toward integration and the civil rights movements. The next major event was Rosa Parks and the Montgomery Bus
