McLean 1 Sarah McLean English 111 Heather Pristash November 2006 Essay 5: Draft 1 Almost everyone has certain television shows they love to watch. Every week on the same day, they can be found at the same time in the same place watching their show. However, there are some people, such as college students, adults with children, and people such as doctors with hectic schedules who cannot always set aside time to watch their favorite show. Before 1999, these people may have had to wait for a re-run, or for the series to come out on tape so they could see the episode they missed. Or even worse, they might have just watched the next episode and try to piece together what they missed. Now, they are able to access Television Without Pity, a television recap website. This not only alleviates the stress of missing a show, it also provides its own entertainment due to the hilarity of the recaps. The writers poke fun at shows as they recap them, even developing their own language as readers begin using slang the writers make up. Some of the main reasons this site is such a great one are its overall layout, involved community, quickness of updates and the quality of the reviews. A websites layout can make or break the website. If a user cannot find the information they are looking for, or if the color scheme isn’t appealing users may chose to not revisit the site. Television Without Pity (or TWoP) has an extremely neat, organized and user friendly layout. On the main page they have a list of recently updated recaps. Each show that is recapped has its own small icon, so a read can quickly identify
