and would be “repelled by any means necessary, including military force.” In the past 60 years, the US military and intelligence
services have grown to become bureaucracies of unrivaled scope, power, and durability. While the US has not declared war on any
nation since 1945, it has nevertheless bombed or invaded a total of 19 countries and stationed troops, or engaged in direct or
