Running head: SEX, DRUGS, AND ALCOHOL AT COLLEGESex, Drugs, and Alcohol at CollegeChristie ConsUniversity of Mary Washington
AbstractThe speech is about sex, drugs, and alcohol at colleges and their effects on students all over theUnited States. It is a speech geared towards college students to inform them of the growingproblem and how it harms them in their education. To show the facts, research was done on eachsubject and how they work together to cause more harm than good at college parties wherestudents are most vulnerable. For the audience in the class, they were asked several questionsabout their habits and experiences with sex, drugs, and alcohol, such as knowing their alcoholtolerance or attending any college parties. As a result, most college students have gone to collegeparties and have experienced either one or all of these issues. Therefore, I came up with severalsolutions to an increase of mixing, sex, drugs, and alcohol with students by getting them active injoining programs or bringing programs to the university to educate the incoming freshmen classabout what to expect and do. As well, I called to action that the students donate money toinstitutions that focus on college sex, drugs, and alcohol prevention.
I.(Attention Getter)A.“I danced my face off and had this one girl completely naked, Drink my beer andsmoke my weed but my good friends is all I need, Pass out at 3, wake up at 10, goout to eat then do it again, Man I love college.” This quote from Asher Roth’ssong “I Love College,” in January 2009, describes what college is all about right?Naked people, drinking, drugs, and just having a good time. Well actually, I’msorry to break it to you, but college is defined as an independent institution ofhigher learning offering a course of general studies leading to a bachelor’s degree, according to the Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary 11thEdition. So it isfunny to think that he would say he loves college, although there are differentaspects of college, you have the institution, the social life and the work.II.(Showing the Need: The Problem)A.My main concern is on the social life of students getting involved with sex, drugs, and alcohol at colleges throughout the United States.
