When glass windows are made too thick, they become difficult to see through. However, PMMA windows can be made as much as 13 inches thick, and still be perfectly transparent. This makes PMMA a good material for making large aquariums(1). For over 30 years PMMA has been used in orthopeadic surgery to fix prosthetic components. PMMA is also used as a bone graft template and as a femoral window plug in total hip replacement(3).
