What is a Liberal? A liberal is someone who says they are liberal, but A Classical Liberal is really more like a libertarian. Modern Liberals are more willing to embrace change than modern conservatives. Modern Liberals are willing to allow the government to regulate business in order to achieve a public good – this they get from the Progressive Era – but do not want the government to regulate morals.

Two Strains of Liberalism: Libertarians The libertarian side of liberalism is most often expressed in support for a wide variety of lifestyles, and for an anti-government interpretation of the Bill of Rights Many liberals are much more libertarian when it comes to policies such as abortion, prayer in the public schools, or the teaching of evolution. They are not very libertarian at all when it comes to regulation of business or protection of disadvantaged groups in society.
