Microbiology 10:08 Vancomyocin resistant Slide 8 The lines represent different strains. The top one would be the resistant one, the bottom would be sensitive and the middle is the intermediate strain Slide 9 Continuum is stead increase within strains. VSSA = sensitive VISA = intermediate VRSA = resistant Slide 10 Different intermediate strains have different cell wall thicknesses. Its important for vancomyocin to have thicker walls Slide 11 If a bacteria is resistant to B-lactam, then it shows resistance to vancomyocin (which acts on a totally different mechanism), teicoplanin (without selection for either of them). The is bad because they could be resistant to different antibiotics which is bad for us. Slide 12 VRE = a different bacteria. Some are intrinsically resistant = part of genomic DNA, whereas others have acquired, meaning from trasnposon or plasmid from other species (doesn't happen often but can lead to problems) Something is transfering from E to SA. Bacterial Growth Slide 1 Growth can be cell growth, which is the increase in volume, size and other factors, or Population growth which refers to division and generation time of a population Generation times: 1) E.coli, Lactococcus lactis (probiotic bacteria found in cheese/yogurt) = around 20-30 min in perfect

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
