The graphic novel Persepolis written by Marjane Satrapi is a first person narrative of the life the author lived as a child during the 1970’s. This gives the reader a sense of the feelings that she had felt during this time of change and revolution. By this perspective the reader gets a grasp on what it was on a child’s min as they experienced situations that they could not explain, As well as giving us a description of what happened during that time. During the telling of the story Satrapi must undermine herself in order to give an accurate rendering of the history from a child’s mind. The story of Persepolis is about the social conflict that was occurring in Iran throughout the late 1970’s. The story gives the reader insight as to the issues and ideologies that were taking placing during this time period. Since the story is being told from a first-person point of view, with the narrator being a 10 year old girl, some of the concepts were hard for her to understand.
