Catalog uses: Dodge PT Components Engineering 2000 Application Data A V-Belt drive is to have the following rating (Power source is an electric motor): Input HP: 4.0hp Input RPM: 900rpm (N 1 ) Output RPM: 300rpm (N 2 ) Service Factor (SF) = ~1.3 Design Horsepower DHP = HP · SF DHP = 4.0hp · 1.3 = 5.2hp Belt Cross Section From page PT7-42, with a 900 RPM shaft and a design horsepower of 5.2, the 3VX belt series is acceptable. The benefits of the 3VX belt are: Oil resistant and static conducting Permits compact, lighter weight drives Delivers maximum power with minimum stretch Long term dimensional stability Minimum Sheave Diameter From Table 3 on page PT7-43 Motor HP = Approximately 5.0hp (4hp is not listed) Motor RPM = Approximately 870rpm A minimum sheave diameter of 3.8 inches should be used.
