USING THE VERB ÊTRE( T O B E )
HOW TO CONJUGATE A VERBConjugating a verb means you take a verb in the infinitive andchange it to say when the action is happening (tense) and who isdoing it(subject)1.Infinitive: This is the form of the verb that you find in thedictionary. In English this form is introduced by “to” (to eat, tosleep). In French there is nothing in front; it is the ending of theverb that indicates the infinitive.2.Tense: Indicates when an action is taking place (past, present, future). In French 101 we will only learn about the present tense(actions happening now: I eat, they work). In French 102 you willlearn about the past tense (I ate/have eaten)3.Subject: indicates the person or thing doing the action. We havealready seen most of the subject pronouns (je, tu, il, elle, vous).Today you’ll learn the rest of them.
