The Dog Ate My Flash Drive, and Other Tales of Woe p. 457 Comprehension 1. Segal is classifying reasons for being unprepared for class. Those fall into several broad categories: the family, the best friend, the evils of dorm life, the evils of technology, and the totally bizarre. 2. This comment is fair because if students lie too much, others won’t believe them when they are in the real troubles. 3. Excuses such as the family and the evils of technology are reasonable to me. In contrast, excuses about the best friend, the evils of dorm life, and the totally bizarre are nonsense because others will find it difficult to believe. 4. I think Segal’s frustration is justified. It’s just because she is fed up with the same unbelievable excuses her students make. Her students are sometimes irresponsible and it’s typical of any other students. 5. Segal wants her students to realize that she knows excuses students can make well, so stop making silly excuses as well as be careful about excuses relating to family.
