Share your understanding of the elements of planning needed for effective teaching and explain how planning with these components in mind will enable students to truly learn and understand science. When planning science there are many elements to consider to be an effective teacher. Teachers need to learn and understand the learning standards and curriculum provided. Teachers should participate in some type of professional development whether it be help by some outside support that relates to the content being taught or collaboration within the teaching teams. Teachers should sit down and map out their year of what they would like to teach and when. To help students truly learn and understand science, teachers should integrate science into other subjects. When planning language arts, teachers can integrate science and engineering through stories, writings, projects, and unit themes (DeRosa & Abruscato, 2019). Often curriculums, may have science weaved into its lessons and themes. If not teachers can plan to incorporate trade books that cover science standards into their lessons. Science can easily be integrated into Mathematics. Teachers can help students connect how counting, measuring, data collection, graphs and tables, and estimating can all relate to science and engineering (DeRosa & Abruscato, 2019). Teachers can plan to incorporate S.T.E.M. activities to connect recently learned math skills to science inquiry activities. When teachers plan out social studies, they can even incorporate science and engineering into their lesson through offering opportunities for scientific principals and integrating the engineering design in projects and discussions (DeRosa & Abruscato, 2019).. Overall, when a teacher sits down and maps out what they will teach and when for each subject, they will be presented with multiple opportunities in each subject area to incorporate science and engineering activities (DeRosa & Abruscato, 2019).
