Improved Performance Special Features Basic Needs Safety Reliability Maintenance IED Customer Satisfaction Meets or exceeds customer wants/needs Delighted Customer Satisfaction e im T E t en em cit x Performance Absent s Ba ic Fully Implemented Unhappy IED Product Function The Kano diagram for customer satisfaction Class Exercise Make a list of customer requirements for you mini project Use the "voice of the customer" Organize your list into the 3 main areas of customer satisfaction presented by the Kano Model Evaluate whether your list describes "form" or "function" Assign a numerical importance to each customer requirement on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being most important) IED IED IED Customer Requirements Functional Requirements Things the product must do Performance, capacity, and size related Examples: Thrust, Power, Frequency, Thru put, Memory Capacity Aesthetic requirements Look and feel Smell and taste Sound quality All of these requirements can be measured and quantified IED Technical Requirements Quantification of the customer requirements Ideally each customer requirement is translated into a technical requirement with an associated technical specification Technical specifications consist of A target specification the "optimal" solution Tolerance limits (or constraints) in recognition that variation is always present IED Technical Specifications Must be unambiguous and verifiable (testable) Low Specification Limit (LSL) Target Specification High Specification Limit (HSL) IED Examples: Light weight Less than 16 oz. High Fuel Efficiency Average to exceed 30 MPG In general ... Requirements should not specify a solution. Why do you think this is true? Possible exceptions: Company policy Codes and standards Government regulations Which is better? The product shall use an LCD display for presenting information to the user. Or The product shall (visually) communicate information to the user IED Options: LED, plasma, voice synthesis, vibration, etc. Organize Requirements Group related requirements Example: Automobile R1.
