Neil Armstrong, along with fellow crewmate Buzz Aldrinexplored the surface of the moon for 2 hours, gathering data on their surroundings andeven planting the American flag on the surface. In doing this they became the firsthumans to ever step foot on the moon. Sparking the future of space exploration for thenext 50+ years, and beyond.When America took a massive lead in the aforementioned “Space Race”, which in 1969was the name of the competition the United States and the Soviet Union were having tosee who could get to the moon first, it gave America a huge boost of confidence.But indoing this the US only caused the Soviets to work on future projects and motivatedthem to be quicker than us to the next great accomplishment, which they weresucceeded in doing.On April 18th, 1971 the Soviet Union launched Salyut 1, the first space station evercreated.
