Mon 6-8:50 1. E. coli is the name of the organism and it is a type of bacteria. 2. A plasmid is a section of DNA in a bacterial cell which is separate from the chromosomal DNA. It is free floating and is not connected to the chromosomal DNA or the cell wall as the chromosome is. It does have the ability to cause bacterial growth or a glowing effect under UV light. 3. There is no way to check the genotype in this way, but based on the traits of the bacteria which are grown, the phenotype can be determined. 4. The E. coli could grow on plates with ampicillin if they were given the pAMP plasmid. The plasmid causes a transformation in the bacteria, which changes its phenotype to allow for antibiotic-resistance. 5. The E. coli could grow on plates with kanamycin if they were given the pKAN plasmid. The plasmid causes a transformation in the bacteria, which changes its phenotype to allow for antibiotic-resistance. 6.
