Liberation or salvation from the cycle of rebirth (moksha) CHARACTERISTICS OF BUDDHISM: Northeastern India (Nepal) The historical buddah----6 th century BCE Siddhartha Gautama Sakyamuni: sage of the Sakya people Tathagata: Thus gone one He is one who is awake. He is not viewed as a God in any way. Everyone else is trapped in illusion/sleep. -Everyone has potential to be awakened.
