1. Explain the value of knowing an audience in preparing a presentation. Many people in our quick paced culture do not take the time to get to know the audience. A presenter will think he or she knows the audience, when in fact they do not. In most cases the people sitting in front of you, want to know what the speaker is talking about. (Lehman/Dunfrene, 2011, p.196). The questions to ask before are: Who, Why, What, Where, When and How. Who is the audience? Know the audience’s culture, education, language, and general expectations. For example, when I had my three retail stores, I would have Indian/Hindu families that would come to shop. I always knew that with this culture to address the woman first as they made the financial decisions. They discussed it together but the woman made the decision in most cases. The article Transnational TV Comedy looks at how culture/nationality and humor help know who the audience is. (Inger-Lise Kalviknes Bore1, 2011) The presenter should know why the subject is important to the listeners.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
