Human Sexuality Throughout History Condoms (16 th Century) Condoms really gave people peace of mind, not only did it protect them from getting pregnant, but it protected them from those sexual transmitted diseases that no one wants to have. It also was a sense of freedom, especially those with multiple partners. Sexual Revolution (1920) The greatest increase in sexual interactions before marriage actually took place between 1920- 1970. 34-45% of females were having sex before marriage and 55-65% of males were having sex before marriage. War With men going off to war and not knowing when or if they would have the chance again, it sparked many to “get busy” because you never know if today is going to be your last chance. Tomorrow is never promised. Elvis Presley (1950s) Elvis was a sexual icon. There was just something about him, his music, and the way he moved that got people excited. There was a lot of research done showing that when girls saw or listened to Elvis, sex was on the brain. It was very frustrating for many men at the time due it being “a man’s world.”
