HISPANIC HERITAGE 2 Hispanic Heritage Until this moment, I had absolutely no idea about the existence of the Mexican-American war. Now I am aware of how much of the United States was once a part of Mexico, including parts of Wyoming and Colorado, most of Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, Nevada aand present day California. This was almost half of Mexican territory. I now understand why Mexican Americans say that their ancestors did not come to the United States since the U.S. came to them. I did not know that Hispanics come in all colors. Latinos sometimes contribute to the confusion concerning their ethnic and racial diversity when they are in denial of their skin color. It is the first time hearing of the name Cabeza de Vaca. This is surprising since at that time, during the 16 th Century, gay marriages among Native Americans was one of the many fascinating images and could not be forgotten easily.
