January 22, 2008 BLACK SLAVERY irony of American history – there is nothing in English history that supports  slavery. These new Americans were freer than anyone in history but, at the same  time, were creating a system of beliefs that allows people to be as un-free as  possible. There was slavery in other countries but at this time, slavery was the  reason the English hated the Spanish so much. English hatred of slavery – The English hated anyone that wasn’t English, but  they mostly hated the Spanish. They thought the slavery going on in Spain was  un-Christian and barbaric. servants are not slaves – for an indentured servant in England, there was a  contract, food, some money, shelter. For slaves, there was no contract and their  work was for life.  African indentured servitude – the first Africans were not slaves, and we know  what happened to every single one of those original servants. One was very
