Psychology chapter one Psychology: The science that seeks to understand behavioral and mental processes and to apply that understanding in the service of human welfare. Types of Psychologists Cognitive: Specifically mental processes. Sensation, behavior, mental processing, sleep, etc. Biological: Physiolgical processes; neuroscience. Also roles of genetics and brain disorder. Personality: Individual differences. Optimism, pessimism. Developmental: From birth to death, how do you change? What can we learn from each age group? Thought, parernting, midlife crisis, etc. Quantitative: Statistics used to analyze data collected by subject. Specifically numbers. Clinical, counseling, Community: Need phd. Therapy, survey, and research. Don’t have MD. Don’t prescribe medication. Community service to poor.

Sport: How to keep your athlete’s mind focused for poptimal performance. Forensic: Usually works wth question of insanity during crime scene. Engineering: Growing field.
