PRACTICE DBQPROMPT“Evaluate the extent to which the transportation innovation contributed to American national unity in the period from 1800 to 1860”.ESSAYWithin the period 1800-1860, there was a great lack of national unity within the United States. Though all of the states in America considered slavery socially acceptable, it was much more popular and higher in demand in the southern states. Because of this, it made the country lack a sense of unity within this time period. Additionally, there was not much transportation innovation in these years because huge transportation movements did not occur until after the civil war, which was in the late 1860’s. Although there were canals and other innovative tactics that allowed the states to work together economically, within the years 1800-1860, there was still an extreme lack in national unity in the United States in many other cases such as socially and technologically, because of the differences in ideals and in marketing/business innovation, which reveals that transportation innovation did not contribute much to American national unity.
