The Space Race. July 31 st , 2007. March 31 st , 2008. Roughly 400,000 people worked for NASA at the time. The mercury program was the first manned program. Alan b. Shepard was launched into orbit for 15 minuets. In the Gemini program the Americans used the first hydrogen fuel cell Also in the Gemini program the Americans preformed the first orbital rendezvous and docking with another craft. Space Race Exhibition. 2002. March 31 st , 2008. < > The space race was in a way to show the world which country is the most advanced. At the end of the Space race the U.S and the Soviets became partners in future exploration of space. In world war 2 the Soviets used more of rockets for weapons then the U.S who used bombers. This gave the Soviets an upper hand in the race too the moon. Originally there was no goal between the two countries to get to the moon, until president Kennedy told the world that it would be a race to the moon.
