Debate Essay and Flipgrid Instructions In discussion sections there will be TWO debates using materials from the New York Times’ Room for Debate” series. Prior to each debate you will be required to write a four-page (double-spaced) essay on the topic. Upload the paper to the main class Blackboard and post a short (1-3 minute) video on Flipgrid prior to section. During section (or after), watch the recordings and comment on at least TWO videos. Debate Essay: Your essay should: (1) Briefly define the issue (2) Summarize the two sides of the debate including the key points made and the evidence to support these positions (3) Then discuss your own position on the issue and explain why you hold that position. Alternately, you can critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each side of the debate. The essays will be graded in the following scale: excellent (A 40 pts), satisfactory (B 34 pts) and needs improvement (C 28 pts), unsatisfactory (0 pts).
