Carmelina Vilardi 1/2/07 Period 3 Kane The first amendment is a very important part of the United States Constitution. It protects an individual’s right of freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly and petition, as long as that individual is a citizen of the United States. There are many different views as to how much freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, and petition an individual should have. Three issues that have been debated over include writings by groups like the Nazi Party and the Ku Klux Klan, violent cartoon shows for children like “GI Joe” or “Masters of the Universe”, and magazines like Playboy or Penthouse being displayed and sold at convenience or other local stores. It is crucial to ensure that an individual’s rights are protected, but then it comes to harming others, it becomes difficult to find a solution for all. Writings by groups such as the Ku Klux Klan or Nazi Party is a prime example of this. I think that these writings should be banned totally. Since some of these writings can be obscene and hurtful to
