Running head: Project 2 2 Research Question : What role did the military have in the creation of the atomic bomb and ultimately its use on Japan? Secondary Sources : Morton, L. (1957). Retrieved from This Journal Article was written in January 1957, this was about 11 years after the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan and there was information still classified at this time that would be released later. Miles, R. E., Jr. (1985). Hiroshima: The strange myth of half a million American lives saved. International Security, 10(2), 121–140. Retrieved from ? url= This article was written in 1985 which was 40 years after the dropping of the atomic bomb and during this time the cold war was lightening. There was abundance of information that had been declassified making it possible to be piece together a broader picture than anyone would have had 40 years previous. Both of the secondary source articles were written during the period of the cold war as well as after many sources of information were available to the authors. The authors look at the decisions that led to the use of the bombs and whether the dropping of the atomic bombs ended the war and thus saved countless American lives. The questions are raised as to all the other reasons other than ending the war such as Russia entering the war and the state of Japan’s forces ability to continue fight knowing it was a losing war.
