RHS 100 1) In your own words why is the CRPD important-why is it needed? Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, CRPD, is important for many reasons. The CRPD allows and makes sure there are equal rights and opportunities/inclusion for people with disabilities in society. The CRPD is needed because the international treaty identifies the rights for PWD, but also the obligations that State parties must promote and protect those rights for PWD. 2) What is one myth associated with the US NOT ratifying the CRPD-(why some say we haven't or don't need to ratify CRPD in US)? How would you educate someone to dispel that myth? One myth associated with the US not ratifying the CRPD is that ratification of the CRPD will infringe upon U.S. sovereignty. I would educate someone to dispel that myth by stating the facts. Sovereignty is the authority and power of the government. Ratifying the CRPD will not have any impact on international authority over the U.S laws. If the United States ratify the CRPD it allows the country to come together
