1 ORTHODONTICS Lecture 10 Dr. Akram Alyessary Treatment of class II division 2 malocclusion The Angle’s classification of Class II division 2 mainly indicates the distal relationship of the mandible to the maxilla, which is purely based on molar relationship of the first permanent molar, i.e. the mesio- buccal cusp of upper first permanent molar occludes anteriorly to the buccal groove of the lower first permanent molar with the upper anteriors retroclined and a minimal overjet and usually with increased overbite (Figure 1). The prevalence of this malocclusion in a Caucasian population is 5-10 per cent. Figure 1: Typical Class II division 2 malocclusion with retroclination of the upper central incisors.
